Euro Wrap: Ndidi red carded, Iheanacho benched, Ekong suffer defeat

England – Premier League

Super Eagles defensive midfielder Wilfred Ndidi showed signs of fatigue after he was sent off for Leicester City’s 2-0 win over Brighton.

Ndidi who played every single minute of the Super Eagles friendlies against Poland and Serbia was first booked in the 24th minute, then gave away a penalty which was saved by his goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel in the 77th minute.

Ndidi’s nightmare was finally complete when he was shown a red card after a second yellow card in the 87th minute for what was his second red card of the season.

Kelechi Iheanacho was an unused substitute for the foxes.

Watford played out an entertaining 2-2 draw at home to Bournemouth with English born striker of Nigerian decent Jordan Ibe playing for Bournemouth from the start up until the 67th minute, when he was replaced by goal hero Jermain Defoe.

Italian born striker of Nigerian decent Stephan Okaka came on for Watford in the 75th minute, but failed to help his side see off their guest, Okaka was yellow carded in the 90th minute of the match.

Turkey – Super Lig

Super Eagles trio of William Troost-Ekong, Mikel Agu and Abdullahi Shehu went straight into the starting line up for Bursaspor, with the of Agu and Shehu deployed in holding midfield position as they succumbed 0-2 to Antalyaspor  away from home.

All three lasted the entire duration of the match.

Belgium – First Division Playoff

Standard Liege featured Uche Agbo in central midfield as he helped them edge Sporting Charleroi 1-0 in the Belgian championship playoffs game played Friday night.

Still in the Belgian playoffs, on loan Arsenal winger Chuba Akpom was on the receiving end of a 0-1 defeat in the hands of Lokeren while representing St.Truiden.


Germany – 1. Bundesliga

Former U-17 Golden Eaglets top scorer Victor Osimhen  continued his gradual progression in Germany as he was given the nod to start in Wolfsburg’s 0-0 draw away to Hertha Berlin.

Osimhen was subbed off in the 46th minute with his side eventually finishing the game with ten men after a late red card was shown to Josuha Guilavogui.

Netherlands – Eredivisie

With Sparta Rotterdam trailing by two goal, forward Fred Friday was introduced in the 68th minute but his efforts were not good enough to get something from the match they eventually lost by 0-2 to host PEC Zwolle.

Veteran Super Eagles striker Bartholomew Ogbeche came on in the 86th minute for ten men Willem II entertaining 3-2 win over visiting FC Utrecht.

Super Eagles right back Tyronne Ebuehi seems to be suffering the effects of his unconvincing display for Nigeria against Serbia with a sloppy performance that got him withdrawn in his side’s ADO Den Haag 0-3 loss at home to AZ Alkmaar.
