Euro wrap: Ndidi sees red on birthday, Ajagun provides assist


After another Saturday where goals were scored in Europe, here’s a recap of how Nigerian players fared in Euro Wrap!


Midfielder Wilfred Ndidi was sent of in the space of 9 second half minutes on his 21st birthday as Leicester city suffered a shock 0-3 home defeat to Crystal Palace.

There was a return on the bench for striker Kelechi Iheanacho, but forward Ahmed Musa remains frozen out from the Foxes squad.

Alex Iwobi was brilliant for Arsenal who edged Newcastle 1-0 at the Emirates before he was replaced by Welbeck in the 72nd minute.

Victor Moses put in a solid performance for champions Chelsea in their 1-0 win over Southampton at Stamford bridge. Moses was replaced with 8 minutes left to play by Zappacosta.

In the championship, versatile Super Eagles full back Ola Aina and English born player of Nigerian decent Fikayo Tomori both started in Cardiff City’s 1-0 win over their Hull City side.


Super Eagles assistant captain Ogenyi Onazi was an unused substitute in Trabzonspor’s 1-0 win over Bursaspor who had Onazi’s national team mate in Central defender William Troost-Ekong on for 90minutes.

Super Eagles left back Elderson Echiejile was an unused substitute in Sivasspor’s 1-1 draw at Alanyaspor.

On loan Chelsea and Nigerian Central defender Kenneth Omeruo was on for the whole duration of Kasimpasa’s 0-0 draw away to Genclerbirligi.

His Nigerian club team-mate and striker Samuel Emem Eduok came on in the 68th minute.


Super Eagles defender Efe Ambrose was on for 90 minutes as his team Hibernian were whooped 1-4 by Aberdeen.


Former U-20 Flying Eagles forward Abduljaleel Ajagun provided an 8th minute assist for Jeremy Perbet to help Kortrijk overcome KV Mechelen 2-0

On-loan Liverpool striker Taiwo Awoniyi led the line for Royal Mouscron in their 1-0 win over Oostende who sent in former Super Eagles striker JOSEPH AKPALA on in the 76th minute. Awoniyi was subbed off in the 82nd minute.

Nigerian versatile player Uche Agbo played in the holding midfield role for Standard Liege who were forced to a 0-0 draw against Gent FC who had Nigerian trio of super Eagles winger Simon Moses, Samuel Kalu and Anderson Esiti.

Samuel Kalu was booked in the 44th minute and was layer withdrawn in the 88th, while Esiti also went into the book in the 84th minute for Gent.


Nigerian midfielder Joel Obi observed from the sidelines as he was not called upon in Torino’s 1-3 loss to title chasing SSC Napoli.


Nigerian junior International sensation,  Victor Osimhen was subbed in for Wolfsburg in the 81st minute as they went in search of an equaliser but could not prevent them from a 0-1 loss to FC Cologne.

Super Eagles central defender Leon Balogun played the first 45 minutes for Mainz 05 who rallied from two goals down to draw 2-2 against Werder Bremen.


PSV Eindhoven thrashed Super Eagles right back TYRONE EBUEH’s  ADO Den Haag who finished with 10 men due to a red card  0-3.
