Euro wrap: Ndidi starts, Iwobi loses, Obi sees yellow


Here’s a look at the football action around Europe involving Nigerian players for Saturday 02 December.


Defender EFE AMBROSE was on for 90’minutes in  Hibernian’s 0-1 win over Partick Thistle.


Super Eagles defender LEON BALOGUN was not listed in the Mainz 05 squad that lost 1-3 at home to Augsburg.


Super Eagles right back TYRONE EBUEHI missed ADO Den Haag’s 0-3 loss at home to FC Groningen through suspension after picking up a red card last weekend.


Defensive midfielder WILFRED NDIDI put up an impressive performance for Leicester City who edged Burnley 1-0 to continue their resurgence.

Things are not looking any good for Kelechi Iheanacho who is fast turning to a squad member at Leicester City. Iheanacho was an unused substitute as he continues to struggle for game time.

Ahmed Musa is completely frozen out of the Leicester team as his non inclusion in the match day squad was not a surprise.

Midfielder ALEX IWOBI came on for injured Shkodran Mustafi in the 15th minute as Arsenal lost 1-3 to visiting Manchester United at the Emirates stadium.

Striker ISAAC SUCCESS was unavailable for selection in the Watford team that were forced to a 1-1 draw against 10 men visiting Tottenham.

OLA AINA was benched in Hull City’s 2-2 draw away at Sheffield Wednesday in the championship, but English born defender of Nigerian decent Fikayo Tomori put in a full shift.


On loan Liverpool striker TAIWO AWONIYI led the line for  Royal Excel Mouscron in their 1-1 draw at home to  St.Truiden. But was unsuccessful in finding the back of the net. The former Nigerian junior international was on for 90 minutes.

Meanwhile, Super Eagles forward HENRY ONYEKURU scored the winner for Anderlecht in their 2-1 away victory over Lokereen


In the frame for a Super Eagles recall, JOEL OBI was in good form for Torino as he figured in midfield in their 1-1 draw at home to Atlanta.

Obi was yellow carded in the 49th minute before he was replaced by Lucas Boye in the 17 minutes from time.
