Euro Wrap: Obi gets assist, Onazi emerges victorious in seven goals thriller

Welcome to Sunday the 19th of  November, a very busy Sunday for Nigerian players across Europe, as we bring you a summary of the performances of our foreign football exports.


Midfielder Joel Obi provided an assist for Daniele Baselli to equalize in the 34th minute, in Torino’s 1-1 draw at home to Chievo Verona who finished the game with 10 men after a late red card.

Obi was subbed off in the 65th minute and watched as top striker Andrea Belloti missed a penalty later on.

Striker Simmy Nwankwo came on with eight minutes left for home side Crotone who lost 0-1 to Genoa.


Super Eagles left back Brian Idowu who made a scoring debut for Nigeria against Argentina, was on for 90 minutes as his side Amkar Perm held hosts FC Rostov to a 0-0 draw.

Idowu was booked in the 79th minute of the encounter.

Midfielder Fatai Kahinde watched from the bench in FC Ufa 2-0 win over visiting Ural.

His Nigerian teammate and striker Sylvester Igboun did not make the match day squad due to a suspected injury.


Right back Tyrone Ebuehi who made his debut in Nigeria’s 4-2 win over Argentina in a friendly game last week, continued with a solid performance for ADO Den Haag who thrashed visiting Heracles 4-1.


Defender Kingsley Madu was an unused substitute for Zulte-Waregem who lost
0-1 at home to Genk.

Dennis Bonaventure came on as an 86th minute substitute in Club Brugge’s 3-0 win over Waasland-Beveren.

Midfielder Izunna Uzorchukwu was subbed off in the 80th minute after getting a yellow card in the 41st minute of the first half in OB Fc 0-0 draw away to AC Horsens.

Kim Ojo was an observer from the bench as his side Lyngby lost 1-3 to visiting Randers FC.


Three Nigerians were on parade in a seven goals entertaining thriller between Trabzonspor featuring super Eagles assistant captain Ogenyi Onazi, and Osmanilspor who started Abdullahi Umar and midfielder Raheem Lawal.

Onazi who also lasted 90 minutes, emerged winner with Trabzonspor, who won the match 4-3 at home.

Lawal was booked in the 80th minute, while Umar was subbed off in the 76th minute.

Midfielder Azubuike Okechukwu came on as a 62nd minute substitute, in Yeni Malatyaspor’s 0-1 loss to Alanyanspor.

His Nigerian teammate, defender Seth Sincere was an unused substitute.

Injured Super Eagles left back Elderson Echiejile played no part in Sivasspor’s trip to Fenerbahçe.


Former MFM FC striker Stephan Odey came on in the 81st minute for FC Zurich, as they lost 1-2 away to Young Boys.
