Euro wrap: Olarenwaju fires blanks in first league start, Balogun subbed off in Mainz home loss


On loan Manchester City forward Kayode Olarenwaju made his first start for newly promoted Girona in a barren 0-0 stalemate at Leganes in La Liga matchday 5.

The former Austria Wien striker was subbed off with 7 minutes left to play as the Catalunya based club chased a fruitless winner.

In Italy Udinese lost 2-3 to visiting Torino who were unable to call on the services of injured Nigerian international, Joel Obi.

Meanwhile Dream Team VI Olympic bronze winning striker Sadiq Umar was listed on the bench where he watched proceedings for the whole 90 minutes.

Super Eagles right back Tyrone Ebuehi started for Ado Den Haag in their 2-0 loss away to Netherlands league champions Feyenoord in a  KNVB Beker (FA Cup) clash.

Ebuehi was subbed off in the 86th minute after team-mate Gorter was sent off four minutes earlier.

In Germany, Super Eagles central defender Leon Balogun was subbed off in the 90th minute for Mainz 05 in the Bundesliga, moments later they conceded a third goal and what turned out to be the winner for  Hoffenheim who came back from two goals down to beat their host 2-3.

Chelsea thumped Nottingham forest 5-1 with Victor Moses given a rest after his exertions on Sunday against Arsenal.

Meanwhile their London neighbours Arsenal laboured to a 1-0 win over Doncaster,  with Nigerian young star Alex Iwobi used as a second half substitute in place of goalscorer, Theo Walcott.
