Euro Wrap : Umar scores, Ebuehi and Ideye play sub roles


Let’s take a look at another weekend of football action summary of the performances of Nigerian players in Europe our focus.


Forward Kehinde Fatai went for an early shower after he was subbed off with a minute played in the second half for his Russian club FC Ufa in their entertaining 3-2 win over visiting Anzhi Makhachkala.

Turkey – Super Lig

Aminu Umar was on target for Osmanlispor FK, he scored his side’s first goal in the 17th minute to help them seal a 2-1 win over Bursaspor who had Super Eagles right back Shehu Abdullahi and midfielder Mikel Agu.

Shehu Abdullahi was booked in the 43rd minute and saw out the entire game alongside his Nigerian teammate, meanwhile another Nigerian in the team William Troost-Ekong was an unused substitute after serving a one-match  suspension.

Goal hero Aminu Umar was replaced by Numan Curuksu in the 90th minute for Osmanlispor.

Netherlands – Eredivisie

The clash of Nigerians in the Dutch top flight between right back Tyrone Ebuehi for ADO Den Haag and striker Umar Sadiq for NAC Breda ended with the later coming out tops.

Sadiq did not toe his last week’s goal heroics for Breda but still will be happy with his performance afterc that helped in grabbing a 2-0 win against 10 men Den Haag.

Ebuehi was subbed off by 10-men Ado Den Haag in the 67th minute as the numerical burden began to exert it’s tow.

Veteran striker Bartholomew Ogbeche was an unused substitute in Willem II FC’s brilliant 5-0 win over giants PSV Eindhoven.

Midfielder Ryan Sanusi was impressive in the middle of the park, helping Sparta Rotterdam beat  Roda JC Kerkrade 2-0 away from home.

England – Premier League

Super Eagles star was replaced by Italian defender David Zappacosta in Chelsea’s 2-1 win over Crystal Palace. Moses was rested ahead of the Blues’s Champions League round of 16 second leg tie against Barcelona in midweek.

English born lanky striker of Nigerian heritage Tammy Abraham was subbed in to replace Andre Ayew in the 73rd minute of Swansea City’s 0-0 draw away to Huddersfield Town, despite been a man short for most of the match.

In the English Championship, on loan from Chelsea super Eagles right back Ola Aina battled for the entire duration of Hull City’s 4-3 win over Norwich City.

Spain – La Liga

The 78th minute double introduction of Nigerian forwards Isaac Success and Brown Ideye helped 10-men Malaga mount pressure on La Liga leaders Barcelona, but was as far as the relegation bound Malaga could get as goals from Luis Suarez and Philip Coutinho as Barcelona run out 0-2 winners.

Switzerland – Super League

Former MFM striker Stephen Odey came on in the 46th minute to replace Adrian Winter in FC Zürich’s 3-0 triumph over Lugano.

Odey failed to add to the 3 goals scored before his introduction despite making several attempts.
