EUROPA LEAGUE: Hassan scores, Moses, Kalu features

Nigerian players were in action last night in the Preliminary rounds of the UEFA Europa League, here’s a recap.

Nigerian midfielder Rilwan Hassan scored for Midtjylland of Norway in the 33rd minute as they narrowly lost 2-3 to host Arka Gdynia.

Midtjylland striker Paul Onuachu was subbed off in added time as he failed to find the back of the net.

Meanwhile, Super Eagles winger Moses Simon was on for 90’minutes as his Belgian side Gent were forced to a 1-1 draw at home to Austrian side Altach.

Compatriot Samuel kalu came in before the resumption of the second half but could do nothing to prevent a disappointing stalemate. Anderson Esiti was an unused substitute for Gent.

Alhaji Gero lasted 45 minutes for Swedish side Oestersunds FK as they pipped CS Fola Esch of Luxembourg 1-0.

Former super Eagles forward Joseph Akpala was subbed off after 64 minutes in Oostende’s 4-2  loss away to Olympique Marseille at the Stade Velodrome, in France.

Nigerian player Ezekiel Henty’s Europa League debut ended in defeat as his side Videoton FC lost 2-1  to Bordeaux.

In England, Everton’s English born Nigerian midfield hopeful Ademola Lookman came on in the closing stages as the Goodison park side struggled to edge visiting Slovakian side Ruzomberok 1-0.

The decisive 2nd leg return matches will be played next week Thursday.
