Super Eagles pacy forward Ahmed Musa started for Russian club CSKA Moscow while Iwobi started on the bench for Arsenal in a straightforward 4-1 win for the English club at the Emirates Stadium in a first leg quarter final Europa League tie.

All five goals came in the first half with the gunners blowing away the Russians with a blistering first half performance led by returning Wales midfielder Aaron Ramsey who helped himself to a brace.

Ramsey scored the first in the 9th minute, after connecting with a squared ball from Bellerin, just two minutes after his initial effort was ruled out for offside.

CSKA got an equalizer with quarter of an hour played when Aleksandr Golovin curled a beauty of a free kick from 25 yards that saw Petr Cech in the Arsenal goal, rooted to the spot.

Ahmed Musa should have given his side the lead two minutes later when he raced through on goal but fired his shot to the side netting when he should have really done better.

Arsenal then ran riot with Lacazette converting from the penalty spot in the 24th minute, it was the turn of Ramsey to dink the ball over the goalkeeper in the 28th minute for his second of the night before Lacazette got a brace a brace of his own with a cool finish in the 35th minute.

Ahmed Musa was lively in the first half with his fast pace causing the gunners lots of worry, but most of his final balls let him down.

The second half was a different play however as Arsenal seemed to forget their scoring boots in the dressing room, missing several chances to further render the second leg a formality.

Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi replaced injured Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the 61st minute, and gave a very good account of himself with his passes, defensive work and attacking creativity that only came short of goals.

Musa who could not replicate his first half form was replaced by  Khetag Khosonov with seven minutes to go.

It’s advantage Arsenal heading to the second leg to be decided in Moscow next week.

In other results, Atletico Madrid beat sporting Lisbon by 2-0.

Lazio 4-2 Strasburg
Leipzig 1-0 Marseille.
