Osun United manager, Duke Udi will succeed Austin Eguavoen as Sunshine Stars manager, Naijafootballplus.com can exclusively reveal .
The former Super Eagles coach resigned as the Owena Waves manager after the home defeat against Plateau United in the NPFL matchday 23 encounter.
According to media speculations Austin Eguavoen resigned after five matches as Sunshine Stars manager due to poor welfare of the club and frustration from match officials in the league.
“We have to move on from Eguavoen era and take the next step, the management has decided to appoint Duke Udi,” a top official at the club said to NNaijafootballplus.com.
“We have officially contacted him and he should be our new manager soon. He’s got some basic things to sort with Osun United and he should join us after the weekend games.”
Duke Udi, 41, started his playing career with Concord FC in 1993 and was part of the Shooting Stars team that won the Nigerian League in 1995. He played on the International stage for Nigeria, with his last game in the 2002 World Cup qualifiers.
Duke will be assisted by Tony Alegbe, a former Shooting Stars, Wikki Tourists and Enyimba International midfielder. He also had a brief stint with the Super Eagles.
Coach Akin Olowookere has been the interim coach of Sunshine Stars since Eguavoen resigned.
Sunshine Stars are placed 17th on the log with 27 points from 24 matches. The Akure side will host Gombe United on Sunday in an NPFL matchday 25 fixture.
