Jide Fatokun and Sikiru Alimi scored in either half as Sunshine Stars took another step to survival relegation with a 2-0 win over Nasarawa United in Akure on Sunday.
Off the back of an impressive draw in Port Harcourt last week, the Akure Landlords were fired up for a win and their quest also got a boost on Saturday as the League Management Company (LMC) granted their newly acquired players licences.
Defender Kunle Odunlami was handed another start just as Ajibola Otegbeye also made another start to life in the Orange colours.
In the 28th minute, Jide Fatokun flicked on Seun Olulayo’s free kick to give Sunshine Stars the lead.
The home team went into the break with the one goal advantage and left it late in the second half to take the game beyond the Solid Miners.
At the restart, coach Henry Abiodun also gave Michael Egbete his second game as he replaced last season’s goal king, Otegbeye.
With two minutes left on the clock, Sikiru Alimi bagged Sunshine Stars’ second of the game after connecting a sumptuous cross from debutant and second half substitute, West Omodu.
Sunshine Stars are still in the relegation zone but the result lifted them a place up as they sit 18th with 28 points from 24 games.
Nasarawa United who are without an away point this season are 12th with 29 points from as many games.
