Patrick Ikeokwu, Traore Issif and Chijioke Alaekwe were all on target as FC Ifeanyi Ubah condemned Sunshine Stars FC to their fifth defeat of the season in a matchday 16 encounter at the FCIU Stadium, Nnewi.
The away side drew first blood in the 17th minute courtesy Sikiru Aliki who was in the right place at the right time to dispatch a failed clearance past Tambe Charles in goal for the Anambra Warriors.
Captain Patrick Ikeokwu restored parity for the homeside eight minutes later with Chijioke Alaekwe selflessly setting his teammate through on goal and Ikeokwu making no mistake in putting the ball beyond Moses Ocheje in the Sunshine Stars goal.
The first half ended even and FC Ifeanyi Ubah needed just three minutes from the restart to swing things their way; dead ball specialist Wasiu Jimoh delivered a perfect ball in from a free kick and Traore was on hand to head home for the Anambra Warriors’ second goal.
The game was put beyond Sunshine Stars in the 61st minute as the Akure Landlords fell victim of the same circumstance that gave them the lead. Chijioke Alaekwe registered his name on the scorers sheet, after he latched onto a loose ball from goalkeeper Ocheje’s grasp.
The win was a soothing balm to the aching bones of the Anambra Warriors after they were humiliated by 4 goals to nil by Kano Pillars on matchday 15. They sit 11th on the table with 21 points from 16 matches and their next test will be against seven time champion, Enyimba of Aba in an oriental derby on matchday 17.
Sunshine Stars on the hand continue to swim in relegation waters and they will be home to Wikki Tourists of Bauchi in their next game.
