FIFA appoints Africa’s best referee for Cameroon, Nigeria clash

FIFA has appointed Africa’s best referee Bakary Papa Gassama as the centre referee for tonight’s 2018 FIFA World Cup matchday 4 qualifier between Cameroon and Nigeria at the Stade Omnisports Ahmadou Ahidjo, Yaoundé.

The 38-year-old Gambian referee will be assisted by Jean Claude Birumushahu from Burundi (Assistant 1), Marwa Aden Range from Kenya (Assistant 2) and Maudo Jallow from Gambia (Reserve Referee). Osama Ataa Elmanan Hassan from Sudan will be match commissioner.

Meanwhile, sources in Yaounde has confirmed that Nigeria will wear an all white (Away Jersey) tonight against the Indomitable Lions due to clash of colours with the hosts home jersey.

The team will have their breakfast at 9am, the players and officials will walk around the Hilton hotel at 10am. A team talk and tactical discussion ahead of the game will hold at 3pm and lunch will follow after the team talk. The players and officials will depart their hotel at 4.15pm, kickoff time for the game is 6pm.

Nigeria could become the first African team to earn a slot in Russia as early as Tuesday, if they defeat the Cameroonians tonight in Yaounde and Zambia fail to beat Algeria at the Stade Mustapha Tchaker in Blida on Tuesday.
