FIFA Rankings: Nigeria moves up one step, placed 5th in Africa


The victory recorded by Nigeria Super Eagles in the 2019 AFCON qualifier against Seychelles has started yielding dividend in the new FIFA ranking.

The country senior men’s team who were placed 49th in the August ranking has moved a step up to 48th position in the new ranking released by World football governing body on Thursday morning.

The Carthage Eagles of Tunisia is the best placed Africa team in 22nd position, Senegal is placed 25th, while DR Congo completed Africa top 3 in 40th position.

Nigeria who spanked Pirates of Seychelles 3-0 will be back in action in the double-header AFCON qualifier against Libya in October before the next ranking which is scheduled for October 25th.

It was a surprised in the World ranking as Belgium clinched the World number one from newly crowned World champion Les Bleus of France based on Alphabet.

The two country has same number of points ( 1729) which makes them joints number one.
