World football governing body FIFA have officially announced dates for Nigeria’s double-header against Cameroon for the 2018 World Cup qualifiers on request of the television rights owners.
The Nigerian football federation NFF wanted to host the first-leg in September 1, 2017 which falls on the weekend. But FIFA has brought the match forward by a day to August 31 while maintaining September 4, 2017 for the return-leg at Yaounde Cameroon.
Both matches will now be played on weekdays, with the Super Eagles hosting Cameroon first in Uyo (barring any change of venue) kicking off by 7pm under floodlights, while Cameroon welcomes Nigeria for the return fixture in Yaounde four days later.
Nigeria are Group B leaders with 6 points from two games while Cameroon are in second place, with 2 points, Zambia and Algeria occupy the bottom spots with a point each.
Victory for Nigeria will almost guarantee a spot in 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
