FIFA snubs Nigerian, English referees for 2018 World Cup

World football governing body, FIFA, have released a 36-man list of referees ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, Naijafootballplus.com can report.

FIFA Referees Committee at the weekend confirmed the appointment of 36 referees for the biggest football event next year in Russia with Nigerian and English referees missing on the list.

Kogi-born assistant referee Abel Baba who was at the 2017 AFCON and top elite referee Ferdinand Udoh couldn’t make the list for the World Cup.

The most shocking is the omission of English referees with the likes Michael Oliver, Mike Dean and Martin Atkinson surprising missing from the list of UEFA referees for the World Cup.

FIFA listed six referees from Africa as Bakary Papa Gassama of Gambia led
the squad of African referees to the World Cup, while FIFA listed 10 referees from Europe with no English referees included.

The referees listed would attend a seminar in Abu Dhabi between November 25 and 29 ahead of the World Cup.
