The Nigeria U20 Women’s team, Falconets, returned to winning ways on Thursday at the ongoing FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in France by beating hard fighting Haiti 1-0.

The two team lost their opening game game to Germany and China respectively on Monday and victory is what required to rekindle their fading hope.

The Haitians dominated the possession in the first half but it was Nigeria that got the valuable goal through the team skipper Rasheedat Ajibade who netted from the penalty spot after a good footwork by Peace Efih.

The was no much different in the second stanza with Haiti still on full control of the possession but Nigeria goalkeeper Nnadozie Chiamaka stood her ground and nullified all the effort of the Haitians and ensure total victory for Nigeria. The Falconets goalkeeper was voted as the ‘Best Player’ of the match.

The Nigeria who now has three points from two games must avoid defeat against China who fell 2-0 to the Germans earlier in the day, to have a realistic chance of moving to the next round.
