First-half brilliance sees Go Round defeat Delta Force

Go Round FC scored two goals in the first half through an own goal by Delta Force goalkeeper, Isah Ismael and a cool finish by Nelson Esor to hand the visitors their fifth defeat of the ongoing Nigeria National League season in a match played at the Krisdera Hotel stadium in Omoku.

The match saw Go Round in fourth place go up against fellow highfliers Delta Force who were a point and a place above their host.

In a fiercely contested first half which saw two yellow cards in the opening 8 minutes of the encounter, it was the hosts who opened scores when Ebuka Akdanda raced to the byline and sent in a cross which Isah innocuously managed to let the ball slipped through his hands and ending in the back of the net.

Still grappling with the fact they had gone behind, Delta Force soon went 2-0 down minutes later. Defender Josima Akuabue was caught ball watching when Nelson Esor robbed him of the ball and coolly picked his spot from inside the box to further increase Go Round FC’s lead.

Delta Force soon mustered their first shot on target when Frank Eghareba’s headed strike from a right wing cross by Kenneth Edozie was gracefully caught by Nwabali.

Four minutes after the half-hour mark. Kingsley Onyenobi failed to reduce the deficit for the visitors when his right footed shot was parried by Nwabali.

That chance spurred Go Round FC into seeking a third but Chidi Nwachukwu’s overweighted lobbed shot agonisingly went past the goal.

In the second half, the visitors where given a route back into the game when substitute George Vincent who had earlier come on to replace the injured Ezekiel Bassey handled a headed ball inside the box with the referee pointing to the spot. Oyenobi stepped up to take the kick only to see Nwabili produce a good save keeping the scores at 2-0 in favour of the host.

Despite having a lot of the ball possession in the second-half, Delta Force never looked threatening to the home side who held on to victory.

The win sees Go Round FC climb above Delta Force and Crown FC into second position on the log while Delta Force drop down to fourth.
