Nigeria U17 women national team, Flamingos, have been knocked out of qualification for the 2018 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in Uruguay.
Nigeria missed out on qualification to the World Cup in the final round of qualifiers on goals aggregate to Cameroon on Sunday (Today) in Yaounde after they drew 1-1.
First leg ended 2-2 in Benin City, while the second leg fixture in Yaounde ended 1-1.
Alice Kamzeni put Cameroon ahead in the 16th minute, but the visitors fought hard and leveled scores in the second half through Vincent Precious.
Nigeria dominated after the equalizer but the hosts progress to the Uruguay party on away goals rules after scoring two goals in Nigeria in the first leg.
Flamingos head coach Bala Nikyu admitted Nigeria lost the World Cup ticket in Nigeria: “My girls gave a good fight but we knew the difficult situation, we lost the World Cup ticket in Nigeria in the first leg,” said Nikyu to the media in Yaounde after the game.
This Flamingos set under Bala Nikyu made history, but for the wrong reasons as they became the first Nigeria U17 women’s team to fail to qualify for the FIFA World Cup since the tournament started in 2008.
