Former Flying Eagles striker seals shocking move to Iran

Former Flying Eagles striker Alhaji Gero has been presented as a player of Iranian club Esteghlal F.C after signing a contract that ties him with the Persian Pro League team until 2021, Naijafootballplus.com can report.

Gero 24, left his Swedish side Ostersunds FK for an adventure in the Middle East having had a brilliant season with Ostersunds FK highlighted by his performances in the UEFA Europa League that saw them narrowly knocked out by semi finalist Arsenal in the knockout stages. Gero scored two goals from 12 matches in the process.

The former Enugu Rangers and Lobi Stars player will be working under the guidance of German coach Winfried Schäfer who won the AFCON trophy with Cameroon back in 2002.

Gero’s transfer to Iran swells the growing number of Nigerians moving to the financially lucrative league in Arab, joining the likes of Ahmed Musa who left Leicester City for Al Nassr of Saudi Arabia and Godfrey Oboabona.
