Global Wrap : Moses with an assist, Iwobi benched, Mikel suffer defeat

Welcome to our Sunday review of Nigerian football players action report from across the globe.

England – Premier League

Midfielder Alex Iwobi was an unused substitute for Arsenal who cruised to a 3-0 victory over Stoke City at the Emirates Stadium.

Victor Moses started brightly for Chelsea and even assisted Spanish striker Alvaro Morata for the only goal scored by the Blues in the 30th minute, as they eventually lost 1-3 to Tottenham at Stamford Bridge.

Moses failed to maintain his good start as he gave away the ball leading to the equalizer, while he continuosly faltered with his crosses and passes in attacking positions.

Victor Moses was then replaced by Olivier Giroud in the 81st minute

Turkey – Super Lig

Striker Emem Eduok replaced Mbaye Diagne in the 66th minute while his teammate and Super Eagles central defender Kenneth Omeruo came on to play the final 9 minutes of their side Kasimpasa’s 2-0 win over Goztepe who finished the game with a man short.

Former Dream team winger Aminu Umar failed to help Osmanlispor FK find a break through against visiting Konyaspor who held on for a 0-0 draw. Umar was replaced by Mehmet Guven with 10 minutes of normal time left to play.

Super Eagles assistant captain Ogenyi Onazi missed out on Galatasaray 2-1 win over his Trabzonspor team due to suspension.

China – Super League

Super Eagles captain Mikel Obi failed to inspire Tianjin Teda away to Jiangsu Suning FC who edged the game 1-2. Mikel saw full action and was his usual composed self in midfield but his efforts fell short unlike their last game where he bagged two assists.

Russia – Premier League

Super Eagles pacy winger Ahmed Musa lasted 84 minutes on the field off play as he contributed his part in CSKA Moscow 2-1 win over their host FC Rostov.

FC Ufa Nigerian import Sylvester Igboun was sent on to the field as a 73rd minute second half substitute but failed to help his side recover from 2 goals conceded to Zenit St. Petersburg in the first half. They eventually lost the game by 1-2.

Germany – 1. Bundesliga

Central defender Leon Balogun was an unused substitute for Mainz 05’s 0-0 draw at home to Borussia Moenchengladbach, while his Nigerian teammate and striker Anthony Ujah did not fare any better as he came on to replace Emil Berggreen in added time.

Belgium – First Division A Playoff

Nigerian trio of Super Eagles winger Moses Simon, Samuel Kalu and Anderson Esiti all started in Gent FC 2-0 win over Anderlecht.

While Anderlect were denied the services of recuperating striker Henry Onyekuru, it was another super Eagles capped player in Moses Simon who failed to see out the entire 90′ minutes with Giorgi Chakvetadze replacing him in the 72nd minute. Kalu and Esiti posted impressive performances.

Spain – Primera Division

Striker Brown Ideye failed to make the match day squad for Malaga, but there was a start for former Flying Eagles and Watford forward Isaac Success who helped the relegation battling Malaga win their first game of the year in a 1-0 success over visiting Villarreal.

Sweden – Allsvenskan

Forward Alhaji Gero and his
Oestersunds FK team failed to recover from an early goal by Djurgaarden FC as they eventually lost the game by the solitary goal scored with less than 15 minutes into the game. Gero was pulled out in the 54th minute.
