Assistant coach of Kogi United has expressed his satisfaction with his team’s 1-1 draw in the opening match of the Bet9ja Nigeria National League [NNL] Super 8 tournament.
Kogi United endured a lackluster first 45 minutes before coming out after the break to grab an equalizer and remain in contention for one of the promotion tickets to the top tier of Nigerian club football.
“The result is appealing for me because there are three outcomes in every match, win, draw or lose but I think this is just like a springboard because we got the one point and they got the same too and I think it’s good for us and we have to build on that.
“We want to pick a [ticket] to the NPFL that’s why we are here.” He told journalists after the draw
“I had to tell them that they need to run more with the ball than they were doing [in the first half], be offensive and show ourselves that we need the point and it paid off.
If we had continued we might have been lucky with a winner.” He revealed
When asked about the movement of players and how it affects the team, the coach had this to say, “Goals are scored by mistakes. We lost some of our players to rival clubs but we still have able hands. No doubt about strengthening our team though.”
Kogi United will continue their quest for a promotion ticket when they face Kada FC, who also played out a draw in their opening fixture against Real Stars FC, by 4pm while Gombe United take on Real Stars in the other group A fixture by 8am.
