Guangzhou Evergrande route Obafemi Martins’ Shanghai Shenhua to lift Chinese Super Cup

Ahead of the upcoming new Chinese Super League season, the China Super cup which is the curtain raiser before the start of the new league season took place on Monday between league champions Guangzhou Evergrande and FA Cup winners Shanghai Shenhua.

Guangzhou Evergrande proved too strong for Shanghai Shenhua as they ran out 4-1 winners and lift the Chinese Super Cup.

Nigeria striker Obafemi Martins led the line for Shanghai Shenhua but could do little as Guangzhou Evergrande who are coached by Italian World Cup winner Fabio Cannavaro opened scoring in the 27th minute through Bowen Huang before Colombia international Fredy Guarin equalized ten minutes later Shenhua.

Alan restored Evergrande’s lead in the two minutes before half-time. Lin Gao added the third goal in the 65th minutes before Ricardo Goulart completed scoring late on to seal a fourth Super Cup trophy for Guangzhou Evergrande.

The Chinese Super League Kicks off on March 1, 2018. Guangzhou Evergrande host Guangzhou R&F FC while Obafemi Martins’ Shanghai Shenhua will hope to bounce back from the Super Cup defeat when they take on Odion Ighalo’s Changchun Yatai.
