Young Manchester City central defender Tosin Adarabioyo has come in for praise by his manager Pep Guardiola after he played the full 90 minutes in the citizens’ 1-2 loss at Shakhtar Donetsk in Wednesday’s UEFA champions league match in Ukraine.
Playing in his first Champions League appearance of the season, Adarabioyo was deployed at the right side of a thee-man defensive set up by Guardiola where he truly impressed despite the loss. His performance caught the eye of his manager who hailed his contribution.
”But we fought, and I’m so pleased for Tosin, Brahim and Phil for how well they played in the Champions League against a really good team in Shakhtar Donetsk,” Guardiola said while speaking to mancity.com.
Guradiola also praised the Ukrainians who not only secured qualification to the next round but also inflicted on Manchester City their first defeat of the season.
”They are resilient and talented players and the people saw it. We came here to win, we couldn’t, but we were there until the end trying to do so.”
Adarabioyo’s link up play and understanding with Fernandinho and Mangala was again highlighted by the former Barcelona coach.
”We were helped by Fernandinho in our build up because Tosin and Mangala have other qualities from that and we created good spaces outside because they defend really well. I’m pleased and happy for the performance.”
Tosin Adarabioyo is only 20-years-old with strong Nigerian heritage despite been born in Manchester where he has developed his football in the last 15 years.
