Ahead of their top of the table clash against Adamawa Queens at the Fufore Township Stadium, Confluence Queens defender, Abdullahi Hauwa has echoed her team’s target of finishing the regular season at the top of Group B as well as claiming the ultimate crown at the end of this campaign.
The New Direction Queens are currently second with 14 points (two behind leaders Nasarawa Amazons), a position that still guarantees them a place in the season-ending Super Four but the left fullback is not comfortable being second best and is hoping they will soon climb to the summit which is occupied by her former team at the moment.
Speaking to the press on Monday after Confluence Queens’ last training prior to their trip to Adamawa State, Hauwa rated her team’s first round performance a little above average. She is looking forward to an exceptional second round outing.
“My expectation for my team Confluence Queens is to be crowned the NWPL champions at the end of the season. This is achievable if we win all our home matches and get at least six points on the road.
“The season is not over yet but let me say congratulations to the entire team because I already see us as the 2016/2017 NWPL champions,” Hauwa declared.
If Confluence Queens can go on to make Hauwa’s declaration come true, it would be their first NWPL title. In the meantime, they are up against Adamawa Queens who shocked them to a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture in Lokoja despite being a player down.
Prior to that Matchday 7 encounter over a month ago, the New Direction Queens were level on points with Nasarawa Amazons – only goals difference separated both sides – but Adamawa Queens put a spoke in their wheel and there is no better time than now to take their pound of flesh.
The match between Adamawa Queens and Confluence Queens has been scheduled for Thursday 22nd June.
