Heartland FC captain and veteran midfielder, Julius Ubido has stated that Heartland will never be demoted again.
Julius Ubido spoke post match after he and his teammates lost in a rescheduled Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) fixture to Akwa United in midweek.
Heartland lost the game despite going in front in Uyo and Julius Ubido believes that the defeat neither translates to Heartland being a bad side nor the team being made up of bad players.
“I believe that Heartland as a team has a bunch of good players. We lost the game as a result of something that happened in our defence. We will go back home and correct ourselves” he said.
“By the second stanza, Heartland will come back to where we belong. I believe that Heartland can never be relegated again” he added.
Ubido reiterated that his longevity with the Owerri based club is not down to lack of opportunities but a personal decision as clubs have jostled for his signature.
“Heartland is a big club with big players. I have been with Heartland for 13 years despite interests from other clubs including Akwa United and have achieved a lot. I am one of the biggest players in this league” Ubido concluded.
Heartland only returned to the NPFL this season after some crisis at the club saw them get relegated two seasons ago and have not started life back in the NPFL on a particularly good note.
Coach Ramson Madu has been fired for the club’s poor start to the season and Coach Ezekiel Onyegbulem put in charge by the club management.
Heartland will return to Owerri on Sunday to host Nasarawa United after their stadium suspension was lifted two match days ago.
