The profile of Super Eagles and FC Ifeanyi Ubah goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa continues to soar higher as he performed excellently well in goal for the home base Eagles at the ongoing WAFU competition in Ghana.
The goalkeeper kept his third cleansheet in five games in Super Eagles colours as Nigeria pulled off a late show to defeat Sierra Leone 2-0 in the WAFU Cup. Thus, he was voted Man of the Match for his heroics in goal for Nigeria.
Before Peter Eneji and Osas Okoro scored for Nigeria, Ezenwa had made series of good saves to deny Sierra Leone from taking the lead.
In the CHAN qualifier against the squirrels of Benin Republic in August, Ezenwa put up a scintillating performance as he saved a penalty in the second leg and qualified Nigeria for her third CHAN tournament slated for Kenya next year.
The lanky goalkeeper carried that into the FIFA 2018 World cup qualifier against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon and over the two legs he drew applause from the teeming football fans in Nigeria for his steady performance, even when no one gave him a chance.
“This award goes to my team-mates, the technical crew and the backroom staff. Our sacrifices have given birth to success and we are happy,” Ezenwa told Naijafootballplus after the win over Sierra Leone.
