Bayelsa Queens’ Osarenoma Igbinovia cannot wait for the second round of the 2016/17 Nigeria Women Premier League season to start so she could make the best of it now that she is fully fit.
Speaking to Naijafootballplus after one of their training sessions recently, the Edo-born attacking midfielder could not hide her excitement at being available for selection when the season resumes on June 21.
“For me, it was not a good one (first round), but this second stanza I will just try to prove myself. I sustained an injury but I am healed now, I am strong to play,” the Super Falcons star said.
Igbinovia sustained the injury in a pre-season friendly against Delta Queens in Nembe and only returned to action on the penultimate Matchday of the first round in Bayelsa Queen’s 2-0 home victory over Ibom Angels. She was then given the nod to start on Matchday 7 against Rivers Angels at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium. Although she didn’t play all 90 minutes as her team went on to lose 2-1.
That defeat knocked the Yenegoa-based side off the top of Group A and they fell to third place, however, Igbinovia believes they will still “scale through” to the Super Four by the end of the season as they look to climb back to the summit of the table.
Bayelsa Queens welcome Rivers Angels on June 21 when the league resumes.
