Super Eagles top striker Odion Ighalo will hope he has put all doubts about his poor form in front of goal to rest with a confident boosting four goal heroics for Changchun Yatai in their 5-2 win away to Guizhou Hengfeng in a Chinese – Super League game played on Saturday afternoon.
Ighalo converted from the penalty spot in the 24th minute, but Wei Du leveled for Hengfeng nine minutes later. Two minutes after that Tan Long restored Changchun Yatai’s lead and Ighalo extended it in the 38th minute to make it 3-1 going into the break.
Back in the second half Fan Wang reduced the deficit with a 60th minute finish.
Ighalo completed a hat trick in the 86th minute following a counter attack before scoring his fourth goal in the 90th minute to take the game beyond their host at 5-2.
The former Watford striker had previously scored just a single goal for Yatai in a 1-1 draw away to Beijing Renhe back in March before going without a goal for club and country casting serious doubts over his place as the arrow head of the Super Eagles attack ahead of the World Cup.
The win see’s Changchun Yatai move from the relegation zone as they now have 8 points from 7 games.
Ighalo and his Changchun Yatai teammates take a break from the League on Tuesday to confront Sichuan Fc in the Chinese FA Cup before playing host to league leaders Shanghai SIPG and Ighalo will hope to score his first home goal of the season.
