Iheanacho makes history in Man City FA Cup defeat

Arsenal will face Chelsea in the final of the English FA Cup in May after overcoming resilient Manchester City 2-1 in the second semi finals of the Emirates FA Cup on Sunday afternoon.

Super Eagles young stars Kelechi Iheanacho and Alex Iwobi were both named on the bench for Manchester City and Arsenal respectively.

Man city dominated most of the encounter and deservedly went ahead in the second half through Argentine striker Sergio Aguero’s swift counter attack in the 66th minute. Aguero’s raced through on goal and deftly lifted the ball past Petr Cech to put the citizens ahead.

Arsenal responded with an equaliser finished off my left back Nacho Monreal and the game ended full time stalemate.

Kelechi Iheanacho was sent on by Pep Gaurdiola in extra time after Arsenal made it 2-1 through a goal mouth scramble finish, Alexis Sanchez reacting quickest to fire in a close range finish.

Iheanacho’s introduction made history in the competition as he became the first player to be brought on as a fourth substitute in extra-time in the history of the FA Cup.

Alex Iwobi was an unused substitute for Arsenal as he continues to grapple with the new reality of losing his place in the team.

Victor Moses and Chelsea beat Tottenham 4-2 in Saturday’s semi finals to guarantee a winners medal for a Nigerian player irrespective of who wins the FA cup final.
