Iheanacho sustains injury on Leicester City debut


Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho has picked up an injury in his debut appearance for Leicester City against German side Borussia Monchenglbach.

Iheanacho made a memorable impact when he provided a beautiful assist for Jamie Vardy in the 66th minute to score. It all turned sour soon afterwards for the former Manchester City forward. After 81 minutes Iheanacho couldn’t carry on after he wa fouled close to the center circle. He was then replaced by Leonardo Ulloa.

Manager of the foxes, Craig Shakespare played down the injury concern in his post match press briefing to LCFC TV.

“He’s fine in there. He’s getting a bit of a ribbing from the players in terms of him coming off.

“You can see the impact he’s had. We’re just really making sure that was more of a precaution. He hasn’t trained very often, he hasn’t been able to because of circumstance.

“The more minutes he can get on the pitch, the more liable he will be to last 90 minutes.”

Thorgan Hazard gave Monchenglbach the lead, before Jamie Vardy drew Leicester level. Iheanacho then provided an assist for the winning goal after he feigned a shot before cutting back to Vardy who applied the finish.

Meanwhile Wilfred Ndidi played 70 minutes of Leicester’s final pre-season warm up match. But Ahmed Musa was not dressed for the game.

Kelechi Iheanacho became the most expensive Nigerian player when he transferred from Manchester City to Leicester city for £25m. The deal surpassed the previous fee paid for Odion Ighalo Chinese Super League Changchun Yatai
