It was a day to forget for the Super Falcons of Nigeria as they suffered a heavy defeat against their counterpart from France in Le Mans on Friday.

The Super Falcons kept the French girls at bay for only 19 minutes before the deadlock was broken through an Eugenie Le Sommer goal.

Valerie doubled the lead in the 26th minute before Gaetane made it 3-0 on the stroke of half time.

The second half commenced with host still dominating the game and the only bright move for the Super Falcons came through Desire Oparanozie’s well struck shot which was kept out by the French goalkeeper.

But the hosts scored their 4th goal in the 60th minute through Aminata Diallo before Gauvin made it 5-0 ten minutes later.

With 12 minutes remaining, Gauvin completed her hat-trick to give the French a 6-0 lead.

Following some pressure, Falcons defender Faith Ikidi made it 7-0 with an own goal before Marie-Charlotte Leger completed the rout.

The African champions have never been defeated like that in recent time, it might be due to some level of inactivity by the team for a while.
