Ahead of the World Cup qualifier between Nigeria and Zambia in Uyo on Saturday, October 7th, Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr received a massive boost from London with the return of Alex Iwobi to the starting line up of Arsenal on Sunday against Brighton.
To demonstrate his fitness and clear doubts, Iwobi scored Arsenal’s second goal in the 56th minute to help the gunners secure a 2-0 win at the Emirate stadium.
Iwobi was then subbed off in the 71st minute with English attacker Theo
Walcott coming on to replace him.
Iwobi had missed two games for Arsenal before today owing to an injury, a situation that has put the coach of Nigeria Gernot Rohr on the edge over calling a replacement for the midfielder.
Iwobi scored for Nigeria in the first leg against Zambia in Ndola with Nigeria leaving as 2-1 winners to start their Russia 2018 World Cup Campaign on a bright note.
Iwobi will now be expected to fly to Nigeria as the Super Eagles are set to have all key players available for a match that will seal Nigeria’s place in the World Cup with a win next Saturday.
