Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr is facing the possibility of replacing Alex Iwobi from his squad to face Zambia next week as the midfielder suffered a quadriceps muscle strain injury few days before Arsenal’s clash against West Brom.
The Nigerian and Arsenal midfielder was surprisingly omitted from the gunners team in their 2-0 win over West Brom on Monday night, with Many thinking it must have been as a result of a rotation policy especially with a Europa League match against Bate Borisov on Thursday.
Iwobi did not take part in the World Cup qualifier double header against Cameroon due to injury that forced German tactician Gernot Rohr to call up CSKA Moscow forward Aaron Samuel to replace the Arsenal man.
A situation which might play out again as Samuel was listed amongst the stand by players just in case of such a scenario.
Thursday and Sunday will give the Super Eagles handlers a clear picture of Iwobi’s situation if he would be fit or not.
Many Nigerian fans would be hoping the versatile midfielder makes it to the crucial Zambia clash come October 7th as there seem to be no replacement for skipper John Mikel Obi position.
