Super Eagles winger, Alex Iwobi has joined the growing list of crocked Nigerian players, with Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger confirming post-match that the player suffered a hamstring problem in Arsenal’s 2-1 loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday evening.
Deep into the second period of the frenzied encounter, the 21-year old was seen limping around in obvious pain but was left on for the entirety of the game, playing through the pain barrier as Arsenal had already made all three substitutions.
Ahead of the trip to the Spanish capital on Wednesday for the Europa League semifinal second leg against Atlético de Madrid, the Frenchman is also sweating on the fitness of two of his key players, the duo of David Ospina and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
”Mkhitaryan I took off because he had a little knock on his knee again, the same thing, just looking at him in the dressing room,” said Wenger.
”Ospina has a rib problem and Alex Iwobi has a hamstring problem.
”We’ll see how everyone recovers because Thursday will come around very quickly.”
The Frenchman equally added that the club’s medical department will continue monitoring Iwobi in the next forty eight hours, and by Tuesday, he will know whether or not to name the winger to the roster for the trip to Spain.
In 36 outings in all competitions this season for Arsenal, the Hale End Academy product has scored twice while laying on another seven for his teammates.
Asides Iwobi, Nigeria manager Gernot Rohr is also sweating on the fitness of most of his players which includes Henry Onyekuru, Joel Obi, Tyronne Ebuehi and Leon Balogun before he announces his 35-man provisional roster for the 2018 World Cup.
