Nigerian attacking midfielder Joel Obi, made a return from injury to become the hero in Torino’s 2-1 win over Cagliari in the Italian Serie A.
Joel Obi was listed on the bench for coach Sinisa Mihajlovic, who also welcomed striker Andre Belloti who just like the Nigerian, has missed several games for the Turin based side due to injury.
But things started rather badly for the hosts, when Nicolo Barella opened scoring for Cagliari in the 30th minute.
Iago Falque responded for Torino with an equalizer ten minutes later as the game ended 1-1 a piece at the break.
Coach Mihajlovic was not prepared to go down by another goal, and then introduced Joel Obi for already booked Ghanaian Afriyie
Acquah in the 56th minute.
Obi then netted in the 69th minute to complete the comeback, to seal all three points for faltering Torino.
His Nigerian teammate on loan from Fc Roma Umar Sadiq, was an unused substitute in the late game of the Serie A Sunday fixture.
It would be recalled that Joel Obi was in sublime form and was tipped to get a recall by Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr, for the game against Zambia last month before injury adjourned his international return.
Obi though talented, has been very unlucky with injuries, hopefully he can stay
fit and provide Nigeria with the much needed creativity in midfield.
