Joel Obi suffer derby loss, Kalu grabs assist

Super Eagles returnee hopeful, midfielder Joel Obi was on the losing side in the Turin derby as Torino lost 0-1 at home to title chasing Juventus. Obi as usual was decent in the middle of the park, but he and team-mates fell to a much star studded Juventus. He was replaced in the 72nd minute for Afriyie Acquah.


After missing five consecutive matches, Super Eagles defender Chidozie Awaziem returned to the bench for Nantes in their 1-1 draw away to Nice. He remained an unused substitute for coach Claudio Ranieri’s side for the game.


Winger Samuel Kalu started for Gent in their 2-2 draw to visiting KV Mechelen. Down by 2 goals at halftime, Kalu lead the comeback by providing a 57th minute assist for Rangelo Janga.

The Nigerian who lasted the entire duration of the match was yellow carded in the 90th minute. His team-mates and Super Eagles winger Moses Simon is still nursing a long term injury alongside midfielder Anderson Esiti.

Super Eagles versatile player Uche Agbo was deployed in the central defensive position for Standard Liege in their game against Sporting Charleroi. Agbo has been mostly used in the defensive midfield rolesince he joined the Belgian side in the summer from Almeria.


Super Eagles defensive midfielder and vice captain Ogenyi Onazi was selected in the starting eleven for Trabzonspor in a game they lost 0-1 to Istanbul Basaksehir in the Turkish league. Onazi was subbed off in the 67th with Dame N’Doye taking his place.

Nigerian central defender William Troost-Ekong and Mikel Agu started and finished the game for Bursaspor, while their teammate right back Shehu Abdullahi was subbed in with seven minutes left to play in Bursaspor’s 0-0 draw at home to Yeni Malatyaspor in another Turkish Super League game involving Nigerians. Yeni Malatyaspor featured another Nigerian Azubuike Okechukwu for the entire duration of the game.

On loan Chelsea defender Kenneth Omeruo started while former Dolphins FC of Port Harcourt striker Emem Eduok was dropped to the bench in Kasimpasa’s surprised 2-1 win at home to Galatasaray. Eduok was introduced in the 72nd minute as he replaced goal scorer Mbaye Diagne.


Former MFM of Lagos striker Stephen Odey came on for Raphael Dwamena in the 84th minute but could do little to change the result for his team FC Zuerich who were held 1-1 at home to Luzern FC.
