As leagues around Europe continue to slowly wind down, Nigerian players
were involved in some of the fascinating actions on Thursday night.
The trio of William Troost Ekong (central defender), Anderson Esiti (midfielder) and Samuel Kalu (attacker) were in action for Gent in their 5-2 drubbing of Zulte-Waregem in the Belgian playoffs.
Samuel Kalu scored the 3rd goal in the 56th minute, but before then he provided the assist for the second goal in the 36th minute.
Anderson Esiti received a yellow card in the 32nd minute of the first half, but otherwise had a solid performance.
William Troost Ekong produced an assured display at the back for Gent.
All three players lasted 90’minutes for Gent.
Meanwhile the duo of Simon Moses and Rabiu Ibrahim were not listed in the
squad due to injury.
In the other playoff match, forgotten Super Eagles striker Joseph Akpala
produced a moment of brilliance with a goal that helped Oostende triumph
2-1 over Club Brugge.
Akpala netted the winner with 8’minutes left to play after Club Brugge had equalised 10 minutes earlier.
