The last game of the Belgian first division match on Sunday was memorable for the Gent Fc Nigerian trio of Moses Simon, Anderson and Esiti, Samuel Kalu who were all given a starting spot by coach Yves Vanderhaeghe in their 3-0 win over Lokereen.
Super Eagles winger Moses Simon who missed out of Nigeria’s 1-1 draw against Algeria in a world cup qualifier and a 4-2 win over Argentina in an international Friendly last week through a hamstring injury, was fit enough to start for Gent.
Brecht Dejaeghere opened scores for the visitors in the 42nd minute to hand Gent the lead at halftime.
A red card for Lokereen’s Tracy Mpati Bibuangu in the 54th minute saw the
visitors cease the numerical advantage to double their lead, through a clinical goal by Nigerian winger Samuel Kalu in the 76th minute before getting subbed off two minutes later.
Gent’s third goal came in the 84th minute through Anthony Gigot.
Anderson Esiti was booked in the 88th minute but he and Moses Simon lasted
the full 90 minutes.
The win pushed Gent who started the season poorly from 11th to 9th on the
table with 19 points from 14 matches.
Gent will be relying on their Nigerian stars to see off Royal Excel Mouscron this Friday.
