It’s not unknown that brands and businesses are embracing ‘unserious’; flexible and wittingly funny social media approach to endear potential customers to their products and football clubs aren’t sleeping on their traditional PR moves to miss this effective marketing strategy, we must have at one point stumbled upon screenshots of ludicrously hilarious tweets from the insanely jolly handles of Borussia Monchegladbach and host of other Bundesliga clubs, but Nigerian clubs? Oh not so likely.

But you might want to draw a thick dark line over the last 4 words of the previous paragraph. Ahead of the NPFL Matchday 8 clash between Kwara United and Katsina United, a thrilling war of wittism was stirred awake by the clubs respective Twitter handlers.

It all began when Katsina United tweeted the arrival of their squad at Ilorin.

“Our players and officials arrived at the city of Ilorin safely ahead of #NPFL18 MD8 against @KwaraUnitedFC ….thank God for journey mercies.” The club announced.

Kwara United as if on cue aptly replied with a strong dose of humor embedded in it.

“Welcome to the state of harmony.
We look forward to a great (but one-sided) game on Sunday.
Thanks for bringing our three points along with you. ”

Katsina United didn’t let the jibe perculate and clapped back immediately with a stronger dose of humor.

“Thank you very much…but we didn’t come with any points rather we are here to take away some..we learnt you guys are cheerful givers” the handler typed with three “Ntor” emojis at the end.

Kwara United swiftly responded with a popular funny lyrics and promised to earn 6 points off the Lafia side on both legs of the encounter.

“Have you heard the song?
“Ko gbe omo wa, kole gbomo lo.”
Truth be told, we want to collect 6⃣ points from you guys. We’ll get 3 tomorrow.
We’ll treat you to some good hospitality and the best Ilorin can offer as a down payment for the 3 points to be snatched in Katsina.”

The showdown is billed 4pm on Sunday at the Kwara State Sport Complex, Ilorin.
