Super Eagles striker Kayode Olanrewaju is still in search of his first goal for newly promoted Girona in the Spanish La Liga after failing to register a goal in an entertaining 3-3 draw away at mid table Celta Vigo.
In a game that swung like a pendulum, Girona snatched a point through Juanpe’s goal four minutes from the end of regulation time at the Estadio de Balaídos.
But Olanrewaju who came on for Girona in the 68th minute was not amongst the goal scorers.
Pione Sisto’s 8th minute opener was cancelled out by Girona’s Portu. Within four minutes the visitors took the lead in the through striker Christian Stuani but Celta responded with an equalizer of their own within a minute from a Moi Gómez strike in a crazy eight minutes spell which saw four goals scored.
Midfielder Daniel Wass seemed to have handed Celta Vigo the winner with a 76th minute goal to make it 3-2, but parity was restored again with Girona ensuring the spoils were shared thanks to a late stunner from Juanpe.
Kayode Olarenwaju was lively through out his 22 minutes run out but fell short of getting his first goal.
The former U-20 flying Eagles star who last season was on fire for Austria Wien in the Austrian Bundesliga last season where he scored 17 goals in 33 appearances in all competitions, was snapped up by Manchester City before being loaned out to Girona to test himself in on of Europe’s big leagues.
He has made seven appearances for the Catalan club, with six of those as a substitute.
Kayode who in March made his debut for the Nigeria in a friendly against Senegal was not handed a call up to the Super Eagles for the forthcoming FIFA World Cup qualifier against Zambia by coach Gernot Rohr.
