Late Mbaoma strike denies FC Ifeanyi Ubah all three points

FC Ifeanyi Ubah missed the chance of moving into the top three positions in the Nigerian Professional Football League, after they drew 1-1 at Remo Stars in Sagamu on Tuesday.

The Sky Blue Stars forced their visitors to a score draw in dramatic style in an NPFL matchday 28 rescheduled encounter. The game slated for 9 July, 2017 was postponed to Tuesday after Remo Stars players were struck with food poisoning.

Remo Stars dominated possession and pegged their visitors back all through the first-half.

Ganda Samuel forced Ifeanyi Ubah goalkeeper Bamba Drissa into a brilliant save on 17 minutes. Awazie Ekene came close for the hosts but his shot was blocked inside the visitors box.

Remo Stars resumed the second-half as the better side which led to Stephen Eze’s introduction for Adou Blaise to solidify the back four of Ifeanyi Ubah.

Godwin Obaje broke the deadlock in the 79th minute to stun the visitors. Obaje put the visitors ahead after Remo Stars goalkeeper Ndukwe Chizoba spilled the ball.

Interestingly, Remo Stars responded three minutes after through Victor Mboama. Mboama led by example as the captain leveled scores from a beautiful free kick. Remo Stars dominated the last 10 minutes but couldn’t find the winner.

FC Ifeanyi Ubah manager Yaw Preko told after the game that his side will continue to chase a top three finish.

“I’m excited with my players performance, they put everything into the game. It was a tough encounter, we defended as a team and we took our opportunity. The points dropped against Wikki Tourists still hurt us and we are working hard to recover the points. We are still hopeful to finish in the top three,” Preko said.

With the points shared, Remo Stars remained bottom of the table with 28 points from 28 matches. FC Ifeanyi Ubah remain in 6th position with 42 points from the same number of matches played.
