Like Okocha, Like Iwobi

After Nigeria and Arsenal midfielder Alex Iwobi, sent Nigeria to its 6th World cup appearance, the young midfielder replicated what his Uncle and former Super Eagles skipper Austin Jay Jay Okocha did in 1993 enroute Nigeria’s qualification for it’s first world cup in 1994 in USA.

Jay Jay Okocha’s second cap for his country
saw the then 19-year-old score a superb free- kick equaliser in a World Cup qualifier against Algeria, a game his side would go on to win.

Iwobi may be two year’s older, but one relates the two due to their youthful and fanciful play.

Jay Jay was once asked about Iwobi and who the Arsenal midfielder admired as a young player and the midfield maestro said, “It should be me, I’d be disappointed if it wasn’t!” Okocha” told .

Iwobi responded, “I was always looking up to my uncle, he told told Arsenal’s official website. “Everyone knew that he was a very big figure in Africa.”

Okocha went on to play at the 1994 World Cup that he helped his country qualify for, followed by France 1998 and Korea/Japan 2002.

Russia 2018 now awaits Iwobi, and one
presumes uncle Jay Jay will be watching on
with beaming pride.
