Lobi vs Sundowns; We are expecting a tough physical game, but we are up for any challenge – Lebohang Maboe


Whenever it’s weekend’s for CAF Games, to a true African football Lover/Supporter/Follower, there is this sort of feeling that raises the spirit somehow, when you think of the excitement in terms of goals, football played and build up to the games that are expected to be played.

That sort of feeling is back now, as the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup take center stage to our viewing this weekend.

For the CAFCC, still this round to play before the group stage phase, while the CAFCL officially kick offs the group stage today, as Enugu City get set to display a good opening group game later this evening, as Lobi Stars of Nigeria, host Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa.

It’s a game that pitches two champions together for the previous season, as Lobi won the NPFL League in Nigeria, while Mamelodi won the League in the Absa Premiership.

Ahead of the game, Naijafootballplus.com had Lebohang Maboe from Mamelodi Sundowns, speaking to us in an exclusive pre match chat.

Speaking on preparation of the team generally for the Lobi game, Maboe said:

“I think we’ve been preparing well as any other game, and everyone is focused on tomorrow’s game, no distraction, we’re ready to play”.

Speaking further, when asked on role he is to play considering how opening games matter a lot, and how he hopes to make the game favourable for Sundowns, Maboe had this to say;

” I feel like we’ve all had the same goal, of which is winning the opening game, and we’re all just looking forward to the game, we know that it’s not going to be an easy game, we’re expecting a tough physical game, but we’re up for any challenge, hopefully the result will favour us at the end of the game”.

He also spoke on personal targets for himself in the CAF Champions League this season:

“Well I’ll just say I want to dwell with the team, you know, help the team progress, and hopefully get Into the final of the competition, I don’t want to set personal ones, I’m just going to dwell with the team targets.

The Young Attacking midfielder also spoke on this trip being his first time in Nigeria and what he knows about Sundowns’ opponent, Lobi Stars

” One thing I know about the team is that they’re a very physical team, they’re big boys that anyone would expect from West African teams, and for Nigeria, it’s just an Okay Country, it’s Okay ” Maboe said
