Junior Lokosa was the starman again for Kano Pillars as Sai Masu Gida piled on more misery for Heartland with a 2-0 defeat in a week 19 Nigeria Professional Football League game at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano.

The prolific striker scored in either halves to take his tally for the season to 16 goals in 17 appearances.

Off the back of a painful defeat to Lobi Stars in their last outing, Pillars showed hunger as they got off the blocks quickly in search of an early breakthrough against their visitors who had just suffered points deduction and fines from the League Management Company.

Dangerman Junior Lokosa didn’t take too long in providing the breakthrough for Pillars as he scored in the 14th minute after an excellent assist from Auwalu Alli. Ebele Obi, in goal for Heartland was further tested by skipper Rabiu Alli and Nzube Anaezemba as the game headed for a break.

Two minutes into the second forty-five minutes, Lokosa found space between the goalkeeper Obi’s legs and doubled Pillars advantage. Midfield maestro, Rabiu Ali played the striker through and he made no mistake to get his second of the game and 16th of the campaign.

There wasn’t much to pick from both sides after Pillars second goal, although the home fans were excited to see Gambo Mohammed come onto the pitch as the veteran striker came on in the 57th minute to replace Nwagua Nyima and link up upfront with new sensation, Lokosa.

Lokosa spoke to the media after the game and in his usual manner was modest on the prospect of smashing the league’s goal record.

“It feels great to score but it’s much of my duty as a player and as a striker to play for the team and help the team get the goals,” said Lokosa.

“And for the record, I’m honestly not thinking about it. I just want to keep my focus and continue in this form till the end of the season.”

Kano Pillars now have 28 points from 18 games and will file out one last time in the first stanza as they welcome Akwa United in a rescheduled matchday 16 tie on Wednesday.
