Former Akwa United Coach Abdu Maikaba has called on fans of the club to support new coach Rafael Everton.
The brazilian Everton was appointed coach of Akwa United after Abdu Maikaba moved on at the end of last season to pitch tents with Plateau United.
Everton’s appointment was supposed to see him build on the work Maikaba did during his two seasons at the club, which saw Akwa become one of the best football playing sides in the league.
However after three games played in the new league season, The Promise Keepers are yet to win a game and fans in Uyo are beginning to feel uneasy.
Maikaba’s Plateau United denied Akwa full points in Uyo in midweek, making it a second game at home without a win for the Promise Keepers, following a shock loss at home to El Kanemi on Match Day 1.
An emotional Maikaba speaking after PLateau United’s draw in Uyo, however called for patience for his successor.
“I really feel for the club but I know Akwa people are patient people,” said Maikaba.
“In my first coming, I played six games without a win, so encourage the man in charge, I believe he will deliver.”

The new season saw the arrival of top players at Akwa United, including the record scorer for most goals in a single NPFL season, Mfon Udoh, Super Eagles defender and 2013 AFCON winner Juwon Oshaniwa, Brazilian midfielder and 2016 Federation Cup winner Alberico Barbosa Da Silva.
Maikaba says the club without doubt has a quality team that can win trophies if given time.
“I have seen a very good team, a team that can go places.
“We should not be disturbed with this result.
“Lets push ahead. I believe the result will come soonest.”
Akwa United will be away to Nasarawa United in lafia at the weekend.
