Akwa United coach, Abdul Maikaba, has set his sight on reaching the finals of the 2018 Aiteo Cup.
Speaking to the club’s media after the team arrived Kano to prepare for their quarterfinal fixture against Rangers after finishing second in group D.
”The Aiteo Cup is an interesting competition, that is why we are taking it one game at a time. Our quarter final match with Rangers is an important game for us as the defending champions.
“The mission here in Kano is to advance to the semi final of this competition.” He said
The Flying Eagles assistant coach also praised his boys for putting in their best and reiterated their desire to retain the title.
“The boys have done well in the previous rounds and they are fully prepared and ready for Wednesday’s match. We have a target and that is to retain our title as champions.
“My players are aware of the importance of every match and I believe that those that will be selected to represent us will make themselves and all our fans proud”. He concluded.
Akwa United who are the defending champions of the Aiteo Cup finished second behind Nasarawa United at the Aba center which hosted group D fixtures between Akwa United, Nasarawa United, Kogi United and Wikki Tourists.
The Promise Keepers who have won the Aiteo Cup twice in three years are in Kano to face the winners from the Kano center, Rangers International FC who are gunning for a trophy of their own after their 2016 league triumph, on Wednesday at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano.
