Sydney FC striker Luke Wilshire leveled the game two minutes later before Alex Brosque put the away side ahead in 34th minute.
Colombia international Fredy Guarin equalized for Shanghai Shenhua to level the scores at 2-2 in the first half.
The second half of the match produced no goals as the both teams stood firm throughout the whole duration of the match.
Martins who joined the Chinese side from Major League Soccer club Seattle Sounders in 2016 has become an important player for the team since he arrived.
Martins scored the only goal in the first leg of the 2017 Chinese FA Cup final, he repeated the same feat in spectacular fashion in the return-leg. Although their opponents, Shanghai SIPG won the second leg 3–2, Shanghai Shenhua won the trophy on away goals.
