Kabiru Dogo’s home bow in the transitional season for Sunshine Stars FC of Akure was short of inspiration, as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Rivers United in a week four NPFL game at the Ondo State Sports Complex, Akure.
Fuad Ekelojuoti put the hosts ahead with a diving header after the restart, but Wasiu Jimoh was on time to level up matters for Rivers United in the 57th minute.
There was nothing to separate the two sides in the first forty five minutes, as no threatening chance was recorded at both ends of the pitch.
The arena however came to life in the 50th minute after off season signing, Fuad Ekelojuoti sneaked behind Rivers United’s defense line to poke home a diving header for his first league goal for the club.
The petit winger had won an initial freekick off his marker and was on the end of a goal mouth scramble to to register his name on the scorers sheet.
Seven minutes later, Wasiu Jimoh silenced the home fans with a deft touch on a Cletus Emotan’s corner kick to level up matters for the visitors.
The dark skinned attacker was left unmarked in the six yard area, and he made no mistake in turning home the perfect delivery.
The home side tried to turn up the heat for a second goal, but their push met a resilient Rivers Unitd defense, marshalled by former Sjnshine Stars man, Kunle Odunlami.
The result was Rivers United second point on the road, as they continued their stride into the season.
With two games at hand, Sunshine Stars have two points from two games and their next game would be a trip to the New Jos stadium, where they will play
