Match Report: Sunshine Stars 2-1 Wikki Tourists

Sunshine Stars and Henry Abiodun will heave a sigh of relief following a 2-1 win over Wikki Tourists of Bauchi in a week 17 Nigeria Professional Football League game in Akure.
The Henry Abiodun led team came back from a goal down again, to claim maximum points from their visitors.The visitors took an early lead in the game with Abubakar Umar stunning the home team inside three minutes.

Sunshine Stars responded swiftly in the 12th minute courtesy of Sikiru Alimi who dribbled his way into the Wikki area before firing past Ibrahim.

The first half ended 1-1 as Jide Fatokun and Sunday Emmanuel missed separate chances to put Sunshine Stars up.

On the resumption of the second half, Coach Henry Abiodun made a like-for-like change with Franklin Sasere replacing Yahuza Bala as the Akure landlords continued their search for a second goal.

The substitution did pay off and Sunshine Stars grabbed the winning goal in the 73rd minute courtesy of Franklin Sasere’s header.

Sunshine Stars could have gotten a third few minutes later, but Dayo Ojo’s low shot hit the woodwork and the game finished 2-1.

Sunshine Stars’ next trip on matchday 18 will be in Uyo against Akwa United while Wikki Tourists will host Rivers United as the mid season break approaches.
