MFM FC will not be in the group stages of this season’s CAF Champions League following a heavy 6-0 loss to MC Algers in their first round second leg match played in Algiers on Saturday.
After a 2-1 win in the first leg in Lagos, the MFM FC had fancied going through to the group stage of Africa’s elite club competition in their debut season.
MC Algers who had comprehensively beaten Congolese side Otoho d’Oyo 9-0 at home in the previous round were however in similar ruthless mood on the night as they made their traditional home form count.
MC Algers scored four first half goals with Bendebka, Derrardja, Nekkache and Karraoui all registering their names on the score sheet.
The church boys upped their game in the second half but further conceded two more goals.
The result, a 7-2 aggregate score line sees MC Algers through to the group stage of the competition.
MFM FC will however have another opportunity at continental football and redeem their image as they will now drop to the CAF Confederation Cup where they’ll feature in the playoffs for the group stage.
